5 Washroom Habits You SHOULD Follow to Prevent Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)

UTI has always been a bane to the women folks. Even the research confirms that women are more prone to get UTI infections than men. The Urinary Tract Infection or UTI is accompanied by frequent urination or urge to urinate, pelvic pain, burning sensation while peeing and sometimes, even blood in your pee. When not treated at the time, the infection can extend up to the kidney. In extreme cases, the patient might observe fever, vomiting and back pain. If you’re going through any such symptoms, then get your appointment with your doctor immediately. If not, then follow these habits to prevent future infections.

1. Don’t Hold Your Pee
This is an unhealthy habit we all are guilty of. While we’re caught up in some important work, we tend to ignore the nature’s call. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and don’t hold your urge to urinate. Note the colour of your urine. If it is pale yellow, then it is fine, but in case it is darker, this means that you’re dehydrated. Cranberry juice is said to prevent the UTI’s. You can have a glass of it.

2. Pee After Sex
Forget cuddling! The first thing that you should do after sex is to urinate. When you pee after sex, the UTI causing bacteria will be washed out from your urinary tract. This will reduce your chances of getting UTI. Women who suffer from frequent urinary tract infections are prescribed with post-intercourse antibiotics to prevent the recurrence of the disease.

3. Wipe Down There From Front to Back
You should follow a strict anal hygiene routine. Starve the UTI causing infection of the only thing they feed on- the dirt. When you wipe down there with back to front, you’re spreading the bacteria from your anus to your vagina. Thus, follow the routine in the reverse direction.

4. Don’t Soak for Too Long in the Bath Tubs
Bubble baths are the pampering we all couldn’t resist. But if you’re prone to getting UTI’s frequently, you shouldn’t take the risk of soaking in the bathtub for long. Don’t share your soak with anyone.

5. Change the Sanitary Napkin at Fixed Intervals
While on your periods, no matter how light your flow is, you should change your sanitary napkins at regular intervals. The used sanitary napkins are the perfect breeding ground for the UTI-causing bacteria. Change your pad after every six hours to prevent UTI.
