I just had my hair rebonded… I was desperately waiting for virgin hair to grow back so that I could get them rebonded once again. It took six long hours to get the process done, but I must say the effect was actually worth it. I am so ecstatic, I thought of sharing my experience with you. I have always had unruly wavy locks and I had to constantly keep them tied. I just wished I could leave them open at times, but taming my frizzy hair was quite tedious. And for a lazy girl like me, the idea of blow drying and hair straightening each day was beyond the bounds of possibility.  

I had heard about hair rebonding, but like every other girl, I didn’t want to torment my hair with harsh chemicals. But when my hair stylist assured me that rebonded hair when done right and taken good care of, can make you look absolutely gorgeous, I was keen to take the plunge. It was about one and a half years ago when I had done hair rebonding for the first time, and earned several compliments too! But back then I was naive about hair care for rebonded hair, and ended up having lots of split ends. So, this time I confronted my hair stylist and enquired about all the knacks attached to rebonding. Here’s what he shared with me.

In a nutshell you can say hair rebonding is the process of making your hair straight, sleek and super shiny, the natural bonds of your hair are broken and then straightened with the help of a cream softener, straightened with the help of iron and then neutralized with another chemical solution.

The Process of Hair Rebonding

• First your hair is washed with a mild shampoo, conditioned and then smoothed with a soothing serum.
• Your hair is then parted and a relaxant or chemical softener is applied to every hair shaft. During this entire process your hair should be kept straight. Your stylist may use a thin plastic board to keep the hair straight.
• After leaving it on for a few minutes, hair are steamed and rinsed thoroughly.
• Hair serum is again applied and then your hair is blow dried.
• A flat straightening iron is used to break the curls further. Make sure the temperature of the iron is not more than 180 degrees and preferably use a ceramic iron. The stylist will iron your hair till they are satisfactorily smooth and shiny.
• Finally the bonds are neutralized and stabilized with the help of a neutralizing solution. The neutralizer is kept for fifteen to twenty minutes and then washed off with cold water, followed by a serum and blow dry.

The Precautions

• Wait for 3 days before you shampoo your hair.
• Don’t tuck your hair behind your ears or use any hair pins.
• Remember not to bend your hair while sleeping.

Care for Rebonded Hair

• Always use a shampoo designed exclusively for straight hair.
• Don’t ever skip the conditioner. It’s a must for chemically treated hair.
• After towel drying your hair, use a hair serum regularly.
• Regularly massage your hair with coconut oil or olive oil.
• Use homemade hair masks to deep condition your hair. You can apply curd, egg, olive oil or Aloe Vera gel.
• Always use cold water to rinse your hair.
• Consume a balanced diet rich in proteins. Try eating lean meat, nuts and sprouts.
• Forget about any other chemical treatment for at least six month.
• Trim your hair every three months.

Your hair is a vital part of your personality. So, before you decide to take the plunge make sure your stylist uses good quality products. I have tried both L’Oreal Professional and Matrix, and trust me, both of them are safe. Rebonding is quite an expensive process and the cost varies with hair length and texture. So, in the meantime I have a little trick for you…Try to camouflage the brow stubble with the help of a powdered or stick highlighter. The highlighter will reflect light from the regrowth, so that it does not look awkward and much obvious.

Giving you the most beautiful eyebrows is definitely not an easy task. If you find it difficult to wait for the brow to grow back, try using brow pencil or brow powders to create a fuller effect.  Go for a shade that is identical to your natural brow color or one shade lighter. Make sure the brow looks blended and not drawn on your face. Another tip is to fluff the hairs with the help of clear mascara.

A furry fringe, however doesn’t not compliment every face. Your brows should frame your face, giving a strong natural look. I personally feel that well defined eyebrows accentuate the natural beauty of your eyes. Come out of the usual rut, and play it up girl!!!

My take on VLCC Wild Turmeric Face Wash

Recently, there has been a lot of raving about the VLCC’s Skin Defense range, and my overt love for natural products made me buy this all natural Wild Turmeric Face Wash from VLCC Natural Sciences.

You certainly need a clean palette to embrace a flawless skin and this natural cleanser does exactly the same to get you a flawless glowing skin. It is an all natural cleanser, meant for all skin types that purge your skin from dirt, dust, grime and makeup, leaving it feeling fresh, clean and little tingling.

The product is contained in a slim bottle with a flip cap. It has a transparent, light orange color and the texture is a little runny and slipper. It has a faintly medicinal scent, like that of turmeric but there is nothing unpleasant about it.

However, this face wash does not lather much, and I had to use a coin sized amount for my face and neck. One thing that bothered me was that when you try to wash it off, it feels like a weird film on the top of your skin that is hard to remove. I must say my skin felt incredibly clean and refreshed after using this face wash but at the same time it was terribly tight too. You need to follow this cleanser with a rich moisturizer in order to combat the excessive dryness, but if you have oily skin, I definitely recommend this facial cleanser.

My take on Lotus Herbals Strawberry Lip Balm

I have this silly habit of licking my lips every time I feel they are drying out, especially when there is a nip in the air. As a result, my poor lips inevitably turn red and extremely uncomfortable in the cold dry winds of winter and to soothe them, I find moisturizing lip balms to be my ultimate haven. Flavored lip balms especially the strawberry one is my personal favorite. I have been using Lotus Herbals Lip balm from quite a long time. I really liked it and therefore thought of sharing my experience with you.

The Lotus Herbals strawberry lip balm comes in a cute, transparent, tiny tub packaging with a very sturdy, screw-cap. The product has a little thick and waxy, pink colored texture that you need to apply with your fingertips. I like the fact that it does not give any color but it certainly gives your lips an amazing sheen. Its creamy formula is extremely moisturizing and works wonder for my chapped lips. And the best part about the lip balm is its delicious fruity fragrance of fresh strawberries that I just love!

The balm stays on my lips for about two to three hours, and I need to reapply it often. I must say, it is a super affordably priced, great lip balm that carries out the claim of healthy and smooth lips absolutely well. Though, I would have adored it more if it contained SPF. Another downside that I felt is the tub packing because you have to take the product with your fingers and this can make it a breeding ground for millions of bacteria.

My take on ColorBar I-Glide Eye Pencil

When it comes to eyeliners, I am overtly choosy. My eyeliner should be the easiest to use, give the smoothest finish and have the best pigmentation and non smudge-ability, I settle for no less! Colorbar is my absolute favorite brand, as it delivers amazing eyeliners at wonderful prices. So when it launched its new I-Glide range, I rushed to get one for me. But I ended buying them in three fabulous shades including Blackout, Jaded and the Electra.

These silver colored eye pencils have a color coordinated tab at the end so as to indicate the color of the eye liner and the pencils come packed in a fine silver box. All the three shades are highly pigmented and last easily for the whole day without flaking or feathering. The texture is smooth, creamy and gives a nice intense color with just one or two swipes. I love the fact that it is totally smudge proof and it saves me from embarrassing raccoon eyes because I tend to rub my eyes too often.

For a casual day out with friends, I prefer Electra, which is a vibrant peacock blue shade or Jaded, which is a deep green shade. Blackout is the classic blackest black one that defines your look for perfectly for a formal occasion.

The eye liner is non retractable, which I feel is a plus point, especially considering the hygiene issues and also you may sharpen them any time to get thin or thick lines as per your mood. But the only thing is that it is a plastic packing that becomes difficult to sharpen, had it been a wooden one, the product would have been better and much easier to sharpen.

My take on Lotus Herbals Neemwash

My skin was breaking out a lot recently. Every morning I was waking up with a new huge and ugly pimple, thanks to overactive sebaceous glands. Maybe it’s the corrupting hormonal imbalance or just that I was taking a lot of stress. My mom gave me Lotus Herbals Neemwash to cure those horrifying acne. This face wash claims to contain active neem slices that have amazing anti-microbial properties. It is a fairly good face wash that actually abated the appearance of acne on my face.

This face wash comes in a clear and convenient, easy to carry, transparent tube, and you can actually see the neem slices in it. The face wash is clear with a greenish tinge and the texture is almost gel like. It is very refreshing and soothing face wash that has herbal neem like fragrance. It lathers well and therefore even a pea sized amount can make your skin squeaky clean. And what’s more, the product cleared up all my acne and that too within four to five days. The neem slices are hard to crush, but the face wash is laced with all the essential benefits of neem and clove. I must say, I really liked the product.

Although Lotus claims the face wash to be good for all skin types but it’s going to be extremely drying for people with dry or sensitive skin. Well, any acne fighting face wash has to be a little drying so as to be effective.

My take on Yardley London English Lavender body Spray

For me, body sprays are more than something to just keep the body odors at bay. Fragrances are a luxury; they are the ultimate mood enhancers that make you live and sing. One such fragrance is the English Lavender by Yardley London. It is a nice floral English scent dominated by Lavender flower. It’s a very elegant and feminine fragrance that is deep and intense but not at all overwhelming. On applying this calming and soothing fragrance, you feel like standing amidst abundance of purple lavenders, creating a fabulous aura around you.

When you smell good, you feel good, and that’s exactly what this refreshing body spray does for me. I totally love the classic, vintage smell that lasts for just 4 hours, but its mild essence lingers on my body for hours. The product comes in a sleek and simple packaging that you can easily stack in your handbag. It has a nozzle neck and you won’t have to put much pressure for its easy application. It is made tamper proof and protected with a spray lock to prevent shop floor level use.

Overall, I would say I really liked the fragrance of the product and it didn’t irritate my skin either. So, if you like floral scents then, this one is for you!
