Being deficient to sleep can actually make you fat! Ah…..this is totally true, girls!! Sleep is an essential process where our body carries out custom maintenance and repairs the wear & tear of the day! Yes ladies, it is a necessary recharging mechanism needed by our bodies. Mood swings, dark circles, shabby eyes, bad skin are accompanied with the lack of sleep. Can there be anything as horrible as this? Well, read on as I decode the perfect connection between right foods and sleep connection.
Let’s Make it a Slumber Fare!!
Tryptophan- a kind of amino acid helps our body secrete more melatonin and serotonin which are the highly essential for sleep promoting hormones. Yes, it’s the magical ingredient. Moreover, intake of calcium can also regulate the other sleep hormones.
All you have to do is stock up the following tryptophan rich foods; get a full night’s snooze and feel as fresh as a daisy!
Go for Grains!!
Yes ladies, whole grains can make you dizzy and sleepy. They augment the secretion of tryptophan to the brain. Whole grain rotis, oats, daliya, brown rice are perfect staples for healthy dinner. They are absorbed quickly offering complete nutrition to the body all through the day. Finger millet, barley and bajra are some of the great sources as well. Refined flour and Semolina must be avoided after 6 in the evening
Be Lean with Proteins!!
Protein is highly important but a high protein diet can kill your sleep totally. They are the foremost cause of flatulence and bloating. And hence, you end up with a disturbed sleep. Try to avoid spice infused gravies, hard to digest legumes and opt for something much light! A healthy, light dinner is the key to a peaceful sleep.
Some of the good options for proteins can be masoor lentils, Turkish grams, yellow moong and my favorite cottage cheese. Chicken (I don’t mean chicken dipped in heavy curries here), fish are ideal for the non vegans.
Try the Fill of Fruits!!
Fruits are excellent sleep facilitators. Bananas, sour cherries, can treat the problems of sleeping efficiently. Make sure that you eat any fruit 45 minutes prior to sleeping.
Always remember that light foods are way better than sleep inducers than heavy meals. Say a complete No-No to that heavy curry dishes and spices….draw your dinner carefully and say hello to a fresh morning every day.
