When it comes to heritage and culture, Delhi is known as the hub, and its food is on the top of the list to showcase the culture of our country along with monuments. Being a Delhiite and after visiting almost all the important places in Delhi, I think Old Delhi is the heart of capital when it comes to a different variety of foods available there.
From Mughal kabab to Daulat ki Chaat, all are awesome and they have something new in their taste. The secret behind their taste is still a mystery. It can be said that taste runs in their blood. Today, I am writing for food lovers who lives in Delhi or visit Delhi frequently. Just go through with these famous and delicious corners of Old Delhi that have delightful taste of their own:
• Giani’s di Hatti
Just walk 50 meters from Fatehpuri Masjid you will see a huge crowd, that’s the Gianis’ di hatti from where you can taste your buds with delicious, sweet and yummy Rabdi Faluda. I bet you cannot get better than that in the whole Delhi. The sweet rabdi with crushed ice makes a good combination with faluda and milk. The cost of per glass for Rabdi Faluda is Rs. 50 and rest as you ask. The cuisine is pure vegetarian.
You can also taste gajar halwa and dal halwa from giani’s di hatti. The thick and rich layer of dry fruits may lead to a watering mouth.
• Kallu Nihariwala
If you want to eat best nihari in old Delhi then go for Kallu Nihariwala. The shop is near Jama masjid and opening time is between 6 AM to 7:30 PM. So, guys if you are a non-vegetarian then try this. The cost of serving 2 persons is Rs. 250. The cuisine is North Indian.
Just give a spicy and chilly taste to your tongue.
• Kuremal Mohan Lal kulfi Wale
The small shop of Kuremal Mohan Lal Kulfi wale is awesome. The shop is situated near the Chawri Bazar metro station near HDFC bank. The place is a hub of different types of Kulfi in which the most famous one is Stuffed Mango Kulfi which cost Rs. 200 per serving.

Apart from it, Jamun Kulfi, Anar Kulfi, Kesar Pista Rabdi Kulfi, Paan Kulfi etc are also available. Opening time of shop is from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The available stuff are vegetarian.
• Natraj ke Dahi Bhalle
The corner shop situated opposite to paratha wali gali is Natraj ke Dahi Bhalle. Yes…I hope you recalled the crowd which is present always there when you go through the lane near the metro station. The corner is famous for its chatpate Dahi bhalle’s which are full of chilled curd and green chutney. The opening time of shop is 10:30 AM to 11 PM all over the week.
The cost is approximately Rs. 75 per serving and is purely vegetarian.
• Daulat ki chaat
You can get the most delicious and finger licking dessert from Daulat ki Chaat which is available only in winters. The secret behind the taste of his chaat is not known by anyone till now. The milk is constantly whisked full night. And in the morning layer of Saffron and Vark (silver leaf) is put on the solid freezed milk. Then the serving is done with lots of Pistachio nuts and khoya and sugar that add more taste to it.
The most interesting fact about Daulat ki chaat is that when you put it in your mouth it will just vanish away like a magic and soft taste of milk and other ingredients will made you shiver.
• Ved Prakash Nimbu Paani wala
The shop is situated just opposite to town hall near Chandni Chowk metro station. You will see a board there also which says- “humari koi branch nahi hai” .The tangy and chatpata flavor of nimbu paani will vanish your thrust and tiredness in ample of seconds. The cost of per glass is Rs. 12 and cuisine type is vegetarian.
• Paranthe Wali Gali
One day, the congested lanes of Delhi 6 led me to the paratha wali gali. The shop is situated at the end of gali where you will get a long list of the variety of parathas that will confuse you to choose your choice. The shop was established there in 1872.
Every person who visits Old Delhi surely has a meal there. The long list paratha includes onion paratha, aalu paratha, gajar paratha, paneer paratha, methi paratha, mixed paratha and many more. The paratha are stuffed with different vegetables and are served with a variety of sabzi, pickle and curd.
Famed for its name since the time of Mughals, Karim is well-known for its non-vegetarian variety of dishes although vegetarian dishes are also there. It is said that Mughals food were prepared in Karim only that’s why it is situated near Red Fort. You can get the perfect taste of Mughlai food there. The cost of per dish is different according to your choice.
Dishes which are famous in Karim are kebab, Mutton Korma, Chicken Mughlai, Brain curry, Chicken Jahangiri, Mutton Qorma and many more.
So, if you are a non-veg lover, just go to Karim for a hot, spicy, chilly experience of Mughlai food.
• Lotan Kulche wala
There are two branches one in Daryaganj and other in Chwari Bazar. The shop is famous for its chole kulche which leave your taste buds on fire. The chole are mixed with sour sauce and chilies. Only person who rises early can have the taste of his chole kulche. The shop opens for only 3 hours, i.e. 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
• Asha Ram Foods
If you want to taste something tastier then you should try Asha Ram Foods. The shop is present opposite to Town Hall. Just go to the dark lane which is linked to Kotak Mahindra Bank and you will get a small board of “Asha Ram Foods.” Don’t stop there just go upstairs and you will get an awesome hub of food there. You can get tasty parathas, vegetarian curry, and dal from there. The cost of per serving can be according to your order but is not costly. So, try this one.
