Rishikesh – Must Visit Places In India

The Rishikesh town lies in the foothills of Garhwal region of Himalayas. It’s the preliminary point for Char Dham pilgrimage (Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath) and a perfect destination place not for the pilgrims only but also for those who are interested in meditation, adventure, yoga, etc. Also, International Yoga week attracts the participation all through the globe, is held here on the banks of holy Ganga, each year in February.

  • Triveni Ghat – It is actually a bathing ghat and everyday thousands of people come here in the evening and morning to take bath and enjoy the Maha Aarti.
  • Lakshman Jhula – This iron suspension bridge is located in Rishikesh in the Uttarakhand. It is a landmark of Rishikesh and was created over the Ganges river. Ram Jhula is a similar bridge further downstream from the Lakshman Jhula.
  • Bharat Mandir– It is the most famous, most sacred & most ancient temple located at the heart of city.
  • Gita Bhavan– Place of Guru Shri Ram Sukh Daasji
  • Parmarth Niketan– To get Vedas Education for children, a few Ashrams are left in India and this is one of them.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Rishikesh, especially for adventurous activities like River Rafting is from early March to first week of July and from late September – October to mid-November.

In July there is a festival in Rishikesh called Savan where thousands of people flock to Rishikesh. Major roads are blocked and hotels are crowded. It is better to avoid travelling to Rishikesh during that time.

Some brownie points/tips……

  • Rishikesh is a holy place, so don’t expect non vegetarian food there. However, you will be able to enjoy delightful organic, Ayurvedic, and health food.
  • Rishikesh is a wonderful place to shop for religious books, items, handicrafts, and clothes.
  • Make sure you look out for a lot of monkeys which make quite a menace, especially on bridges.
  • Try to walk though auto rickshaws are also accessible to provide transport from the railway station or bus stand to either of the bridges.
