It is the season of apples and the market is overflooded with apples. We all know that when the apples are not in the season their prices are soaring high but when in the season these can be purchased without spending too much. So, since apples are in season I thought why not make something out of apples. So here I am sharing the apple halwa recipe. A light dessert that you can make this weekend. If you are on diet or want to make it a little healthy then skip the sugar altogether.

Here is a step by step recipe of the apple halwa.

Ingredients:

  • Apples- 6-7, peeled and diced
  • Ghee/clarified butter- 2 tbsp.
  • Water- 1 tbsp.
  • Cinnamon powder- 1 tsp.
  • Vanilla extract- 2 tsp.
  • Sugar- 5 tbsp. (you can add more depending on your taste)
  • Almonds- 1 tbsp. blanched, peeled and halved
  • Pistachios- 1 tbsp. blanched, peeled and halved

Procedure:

  1.  Heat a kadhai and melt the ghee in it.
  2.  Add the chopped apples and sauté them for 5 minutes.
  3.  When the apples are cooked and browned enough, add 1 tbsp. water.
  4.  Turn the heat to low and cook the apples for 15 minutes until they are fully cooked, broken down and thickened.
  5.  With a spatula mash the apples. Stir the apples at regular interval to avoid burning.
  6.  Now add the sugar and continue cooking until the mixture is uniform.
  7.  Turn the heat on high and cook the mixture while continuously stirring it.
  8.  Add the vanilla extract and the cinnamon powder. Continue stirring the mixture.
  9.  When the mixture starts to turn translucent, turn off the flame. Remove the kadhai from the stove top.
  10.  Add the chopped almonds and pistachios. Mix well.
  11.  Transfer the halwa to a bowl or on a plate.
  12.  Serve the halwa hot or cold.
