Gray hair starts appearing soon after you hit your 30s. This happens due to the lack of Melanin which is a color giving pigment. Nowadays a lot of procedure, treatments, and variety of dyes are available in the market to overcome this issue. Though they are effective, it sucks all the natural oils present in the hair. To avoid this, we have listed some natural ingredients that you can use to cover your gray hair.

1. Ghee (clarified butter)

Ghee is used in preparing delicious food but it can also be used to maintain the health of your hair. It provides nourishment to the hair and also helps to regain its natural colour.


Massage your hair gently with ghee and let it stay for an hour. And then wash it off as usual. Repeat this twice a week to get desired results.

2. Amla

This fruit is full of vitamin C and is also known for its restorative properties which help in hair growth. That is why it is the main ingredient in many hair dyes and best option for hair colouring. This fruit helps in slowing down the graying process and also boosts hair growth.


Mix 1 tablespoon of amla powder with 1 tablespoon of coconut. And then boil this mix till the oil starts to boil. Now, let the oil mixture cool down. When it is mild hot start applying it to your hair and let it sit for 30-40 minutes. Later, wash it off with cold water.

The quantity of the mixture can vary according to your hair length.

3. Potato peels

We all throw those potato peels but do you know that are effective in treating gray hair. The peels of the potatoes contain a high amount of starch which helps in preserving hair colour. Frequent use of this will cover all your gray hair in few months.


Boil the peels of the potatoes in 2 cups of water for 10 minutes. After that take it off and let it cool. Strain the water and wash your hair with it and let it stay for 30 minutes. And then, rinse off with water.

4. Coffee

It is one of the best dyeing ingredients that one can use. Its regular usage can bring a significant change in the colour of the hair and also makes your healthy.


Buy a pure coffee which is free from colorants and flavours. Now, mix 2-3 tablespoons of coffee with 100-150 ml of water. Then, boil this mixture till you get a thick consistency and dark liquid. Once the mixture is cool apply it on your hair evenly and let it stay for 45 minutes. And after that rinse it off as usual.
