A lot of factors may lead to uneven skin tone. Uneven skin tone, also known as hyperpigmentation is the outcome of melanin overproduction. Melanin is the pigment that is responsible for the color of our hair and complexion. It also protects our skin from the harmful rays of the sun. under normal circumstances, it works fine within your body but when there is an overproduction your skin tone becomes uneven and patchy.
The excess production of melanin may be the result of over-exposure to the sun, hormonal imbalance or scarring. Luckily, uneven skin tone is not permanent and there are several natural remedies that work effectively in treating patchy skin.
1. Baking soda
Baking soda is almost like a staple if you are a fan of home remedies. From teeth whitening to achieving fairer skin, baking soda is a competent ingredient of almost every home remedy. Baking soda is very fine in texture and hence acts as a great bio exfoliator that is not all harsh on your skin. The fine particles of baking soda work similarly like microdermabrasion and gets rid of dead skin and tanning from the surface of your skin making it look more even toned.
How to use it- Take one teaspoon of baking soda and combine with just enough water to make a paste. Apply this paste on your face and leave it on for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes scrub your face for 2 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. When used regularly this remedy is highly effective in reducing the uneven skin tone.
2. Aloe Vera
Another ingredient that is used extensively in a lot of home remedies is Aloe Vera. This mighty plant is effective in treating almost every skin ailment that too without irritating the skin. The gel extracted from the leaves of Aloe Vera treats uneven skin tone, patchiness and also moisturizes the skin.
How to use it- Both fresh and store-bought Aloe Vera gel works fine in treating skin ailments, but if you have a sensitive skin try using store-bought Aloe Vera gel as the natural one might be too harsh for you. To extract fresh Aloe Vera gel from the plant, take a leaf of Aloe Vera and peel it with a sharp knife and use the slimy gel to apply on the face. Leave it on your face for 15 minutes and then wash it off with plain water. Repeat this remedy at least twice a week to see visible results.
Oranges are the powerhouse of vitamin C. The presence of vitamin C also known as ascorbic acid, is an active source of production of collagen, a protein responsible for the healthy growth of skin cells and blood vessels giving skin its firmness. Vitamin C also aids in the formation of scar ligament and tissues and helps in repairing the tissues on their own. Due to the occurrence of ascorbic acid, it acts as an amazing bleaching agent.
How to use it- Take 2 tbsp. fresh orange juice and add a pinch of turmeric powder to make a thick paste. Apply this paste on your skin and leave it on for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes wash it off with cold water and pat dry. Repeat this remedy at least twice every week.
When used as a face mask yogurt can lighten the skin tone, as well as exfoliates it. This is due to the acidic nature of yogurt and the presence of mild bleaching properties. It also de-tans the skin, reduces marks and pigmentation.
How to use it- Take a tbsp. of natural yogurt and whisk it well to get rid of any lumps.
Apply this mask on your face and leave it on for at least 15-20 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.
Tomatoes have natural bleaching properties that help lighten the skin. The presence of vitamin c makes it a great remedy for treating uneven skin tone, dark spots and pigmentation. The acidic nature stabilizes the pH level of the skin and prevents the secretion of excess oil.
How to use it- Tomatoes can be applied directly onto the skin. Take one ripe tomato, cut it in half and rub it on your entire face and neck. Leave it on your face for 15 minutes and rinse it off with cold water.
